U.S. Charges Chinese Military Hackers for Equifax Breach: The Implications for Cybersecurity



Attorney General William Barr announced charges against four Chinese military hackers for breaking into Equifax and stealing trade secrets as well as the personal data of 145 million Americans, nearly half the population.


The Equifax security chief noted that the company continues to fend off attempted cyberattacks every day, and expects hacks to escalate in the future. He said that given how dedicated the Chinese military hackers were, a breach could still have happened even if the vulnerability had been patched.
